Resurrection sponsors new Liverpool Award

Some cities have wonderful pop music histories, some might be lucky enough to enjoy successful periods in the future, but few can confidently say, they have both.

Liverpool is one of a select bunch of cities that can. Like London, New York, Chicago, Detroit and Los Angeles, it can accurately claim to have changed the complexion of modern music.

Now, a new prize, the GIT Award (named after the popular local music blog Getintothis - www.getintothis.co.uk), is about to recognise the best of the future crop of Liverpool musicians who may go on to do what Scousers have been doing for more than half a century – changing the course of history.

As award-winning writer and Word Magazine associate editor Paul Du Noyer, author of the peerless history of the city’s pop music culture, Liverpool Wondrous Place, says, “Music is not just the heritage but the heartbeat of Liverpool.”

But, it’s not just about rock and roll and the guitar bands the city has mostly been famed for, the GIT Award will celebrate Liverpool's current rich musical diversity. From the thriving hip hop scene to its electronica artists, from its long-established country and roots community to punk, folk and metal, the GIT Award is open to all.

Peter Guy, Liverpool ECHO journalist and editor of Getintothis, says, “Think of it as the Scouse Mercury Prize - but, the only criteria being that it has a clear connection with Liverpool; ie: the record was made, produced or recorded by Liverpudlians. "Unlike the Mercurys, there will be a transparent judging panel and as many grass roots musicians won't record a full album during the course of a year, we're asking for four tracks be submitted to be eligible for entry - think of it as an old school four-track EP."

And the prize? It's a little belter. Sandhills Studio is offering a day's free recording time with a top producer, while the winners will play next year's Liverpool Sound City and Liverpool Music Week.

Vce Magazine, meanwhile, has asked Getintothis to promote an exclusive gig at their London-based bar, The Old Blue Last, featuring the winners. On top of this, film-maker Ian Gamester, who has been shortlisted for the prestigious Virgin Media Shorts film, will make the band's video promo which will be screened in FACT’s boutique Box cinema for the winners and their nearest and dearest.

Further goodies from sponsors will be announced in the coming months.

The GIT Award will have an official launch at Liverpool Music Week's spectacular closing party at the Contemporary Urban Centre on November 11 with the 12 nominees announced next spring before the winner is unveiled days before Liverpool Sound City 2012 where they will feature on the Getintothis stage.

In the meantime, spread the word, The GIT Award is officially ON - musicians, bands and creative types everywhere, send your four tracks to getintothis@gmail.com or alternatively post to Peter Guy, The GIT Award, Liverpool Daily Post & ECHO, PO Box 48, Old Hall Street, Liverpool, L693EB. If you're a business and would like to get involved with the GIT Award, please email getintothis@gmail.com

Bold Street Festival 2011 Madness

We think Bold Street is pretty much the bee's knees and that's not just because we're located here. One-off shops, cafes and coffee shops a go--go, and the quirkiest of characters all combine to create Liverpool's coolest street. This weekend sees the Bold Street Festival back for it's fourth year, and this time it stretches over two days.

With pavement painters, street entertainers, in-store promotions, live music, vintage fairs and arts and crafts all on offer, as well as secret events held in St. Luke's Church, we see little reason to venture further afield. Bold Street will also be having another blast at nabbing the Guinness World Record attempt for the world's smallest nightclub. Tiny pleasures.

Keeping in the spirit of this wondrous event, Resurrection are offering a whopping 20% off all full-price clothing for the whole weekend. Now would be the time to get your mitts on that winter coat you've been eyeing up without sacrificing a night out. Come on down this weekend and see how it's done, as Bold Street showcases what it has to offer. That, and get 20% off the likes of Carhartt, Motel, Ben Sherman, Traffic People, New Era, Reverse, Wrangler, Levi's and Lee. MEGATOWN.

(Offer applies to full-price items only)

WE WANT TO GIVE YOU MORE STUFF....but you need to do something for us!

We've decided to shower you with the love you deserve more often, every weekend in fact, with deals that would make Alan Sugar weep. But you don't get something for nothing, not even from us, and to take advantage of our ludicrous generosity, all you need to do is mention the weekly deal password at the till instore to receive your discount.

On offer this weekend is a whopping 20% discount off all full-price men's and women's jeans, 20% off all full-price Converse, and 20% off all Boxfresh. To get this not to be missed discount, all you have to do is say 'LACEY LOVES LAURA' at the till instore, and your grand total will magically reduce!

We've also gone a bit crazy on the mark-downs this week for our mid-season sale. Humor Jeans and chinos are now down to just £50 or less and Humor shorts are down 50%, the Criminal Damage Varisty Jackets are now just £25, and all the Onitsuka Tiger Trainers are down to £40 or less. We've been through at least 3 red markers.

Traffic People maxis, playsuits and dresses are now in stock. When people talk about something taking you through from day to night, they're often lying, and you'd either look a bit risqué in the day or a bit too 'office' in the night. This brand, however, have nailed it, the only hindrance being you'll have to put up with looking fabulous 24/7. Get them while they're hot.

Don't forget to take advantage of all the deals on offer this weekend, and keep an eye out every Friday for the new deals...

Reasons To Be Frivolous...

Being frugal isn't fun no matter how you try and dress it up, and never is the pinch felt more than in the run-up to pay-day. All hail the surprisingly cheap and incredibly cheerful heroes Cloak And Dagger! The new brand from the founders of Arc Clothing combines the cuts and colours of the season with teeny-tiny price tags. Looks like you can afford some new clothes after all...

Another box from the brand has just arrived, with the staff favourites being the Skinny Hoody in Sand.

The rather lovely USA tee has also taken our collective fancies. Capturing the best bit of illuminati iconography alongside other images from dollar bills, this top proves you don't have to splash the cash to look the money. (We can't believe we just wrote that either.)

In other news, the wait is over, hat fans! The new batch of New Era caps is now instore! The Seasonal Contrast Cap in Cardinal Blue and Yellow is an instant hit, a super-fresh colour-way and effortlessly summery.

The Basic Contrast Visitor Baseball Cap with an Atlanta Braves
motif is revels in its own simplicity, and hey there snap-back lovers, the Retro Word Baseball Cap is now in stock! Get them while you can, and get them while we have your head size!

With new stuff arriving every week, keep up to date with what's on offer via our Facebook, Twitter and newsletters, which you can sign up for at www.resurrection-online.com. There'll be exclusive offers and discount codes for those who do... keep your eyes peeled!

Stars And Stripes And Hearts And Bows...

The Hearts and Bows summer collection landed in Resurrection last week and promptly sent all the staff's hearts a flutter. Channelling the romantic whimsy which flooded the catwalks and combining it with something a little more practical, Hearts and Bows is the affordable brand which really will see you through the sunny days and beyond. We're a little in love with the Kelly Dress in burgundy and the Heather Dress in yellow...

House Of The Gods returned victorious with three new tees for our perusal. The new Debbie Harry design was the first to float our boat with its cheeky nautical salute. The pop-art inspired Madonna t-shirt is as attention grabbing as the lady herself, while the classic John Lennon New York Tee is given an update with sequins.

Reverse added a little American charm to proceedings with their stars and stripes emblazoned American Flag Shorts, the tongue-in-cheek fashion hit of the summer. Their collection of iconic brand inspired vests (see the No. 9) are great coupled with a pair of cut-offs or on-trend bright skinny jeans.

Working in a clothes shop, as I do, a clothes shop full of girls, as I do, we have slowly but surely and very cleverly invented a secret language. A quick flick of an eyebrow, a wink or a sharp nod and we know exactly what the other wants. Sweets! It never changes. It's a vital part of our job, it gets us through the day. Even if we're all on the cabbage soup diet, we all know there's no point backing out. we act like children on christmas eve, one runs out, rain, wind, hail or shine and we eat and eat til we can't stand the sight of another fizzy fish or strawb!
I work at Resurrection which is in Liverpool, right in the middle of Bold Street. Bold Street is probably the hub of everything fun and quirky in Liverpool right now. There are loads of little coffee, book, Indian furniture, charity, cake and vintage shops, not to mention Hairy Records, one of the most famous old record shops in the country. But more importantly for us lot, there are looooads of sweet shops. We fell in love with Cadbury's Snowballs lately, 89pence, icing sugar, chocolatey heaven, you'll never be the same again!
Or if you're far too good for these treats and you're will power is actually a power, you could give your eyes a feast with our new jewellery collection. A new designer 'Girl From Blue City' have handmade necklaces, rings and bracelets....you have to see them to understand. They'll have you drooling! Go to our website and check out the accessories. www.resurrection-online.com
